Privacy
What this site collects.
Not much. This site tells the story of Getting Back from Base Camp and sends readers to Amazon to buy it. It shows no ads and sells no data.
Counting visits
We use Google Analytics to count visits and to see which parts of the page readers use, such as which buy buttons they tap. It sets cookies on this site so a returning browser is counted once, and Google processes the data under its privacy policy (see how Google uses information from sites that use its services). Google’s advertising features are turned off. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google Analytics counts visits without cookies. To opt out anywhere, use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.
Buy buttons
When you tap a buy button, the site uses the country your connection comes from to open your own Amazon store. It records which button was tapped and that country, so we know which parts of the page help, but not who you are. Amazon’s own privacy notice applies once you are on Amazon.
Reviews
If you write a review, we keep what you send: your rating, review, name, where you are, and email address. Once approved, your rating, review, name, and location are shown on this site. Your email address is never shown or shared, and is only used if David needs to reach you about your review. To stop spam, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person, and we keep a scrambled, one-way version of your connection’s address to limit how many reviews can be sent.
Hosting
The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles every request, including your IP address, to deliver the site and keep it secure, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. The people who look after the site have a sign-in cookie; readers never need one.
Questions
To ask about your data or have your review removed, message David through his Facebook page.
